Job summary

VIAVI Solutions in Santa Rosa, CA, is seeking a tooling engineer to design, procure, and maintain coating tooling and related equipment. You will assemble and prepare tooling, coordinate with vendors, and create detailed engineering drawings for production use.

You will work closely with Equipment Engineering to implement improvements, support tooling scheduling, and drive continuous enhancement of coating processes. Strong CAD skills and Teamcenter knowledge are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Design of complex mechanical assemblies.
• Use of basic hand tools and measuring tools.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and engineering standards.
• Understanding of basic engineering principles such as torque, pressure, mass, standard metrics and measurement systems.
• Ability to write clear and concise instructions and communications.
• Ability to get along and communicate with others.
• Basic understanding of vacuum systems, thin film coatings, and appropriate materials used in a vacuum chamber.
• High-level problem-solving skills for both mechanical and procedural tasks.
• Excellent computer skills with ability to learn and apply various company specific and general use programs.
• Knowledge of PLM/ PDM systems will be required, Teamcenter preferred.
• Experience with 3D CAD required, SolidWorks and NX preferred.
• Exhibits exceptional organizational discipline.

Responsibilities

• Procure and maintain tooling inventory and work instructions.
• Manage outside vendors for tool cleaning and chamber shield treatments.
• Create material requisitions in Oracle and process POs.
• Support equipment engineering in tooling and fixture CAD work.
• Lead continuous improvement efforts in coating processes and production flow.
• Collaborate with Engineering on new tooling integration and PI/PCN processes.
• Provide floor support for tooling scheduling and troubleshooting when needed.
