Job summary

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. seeks a hands-on Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for the Future Forward team to deliver complex mechanical and electromechanical systems for robotic instrument platforms. You will contribute from concept through validation, focusing on reliability, manufacturability, and clinical needs.

Required are a ME degree, 3+ years in medical devices, CAD with SolidWorks, and strong collaboration across software, electrical, and clinical teams in an onsite environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• A minimum of 3 years designing mechanical engineering products or relevant engineering experience (medical device industry preferred).
• Expertise in the design of high-precision mechanisms, electromechanical systems, and complex tolerance stacks.
• Demonstrated ability to drive new product ideas from concept to launch in regulated environments, with growing ownership and scope.
• Demonstrated understanding of engineering fundamentals, including first-principles analysis, FEA, GD&T (ANSI Y14.5), materials, design for reliability and manufacturability, and statistical analysis.
• Highly proficient in CAD (SolidWorks preferred): complex assemblies, production documentation, and DFM/DFA.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop robotic surgical instruments and subsystems.
• Translate requirements into design solutions through prototyping and testing.
• Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, BOMs, and drawings.
• Collaborate with software, electrical, and clinical teams.
• Participate in design reviews and risk analyses.
