Job summary

Commonwealth Sciences, Inc. in Massachusetts is seeking a Project Engineer to support senior project managers with plans, schedules, and budgets. You will help prepare and update project documentation and coordinate activities across internal teams, customers, and vendors.

The role uses Autodesk AutoCAD in 2D and 3D to interpret drawings and ensure compliance with specifications, while gradually taking on broader project execution responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 1–5 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably involving production machinery, process equipment, and/or process instrumentation.
• Hands-on experience using Autodesk AutoCAD in both 2D and 3D environments.
• Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Effective communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, clients, and vendors.
• Interest in developing into a broader Project Engineer role with increasing responsibility for project execution and coordination.

Responsibilities

• Support senior project managers with development and execution of project plans, timelines, budgets, and schedules.
• Prepare, organize, and update project documentation, including project plans, status reports, meeting agendas, and meeting notes.
• Use 2D and 3D Autodesk AutoCAD to review, update, and modify technical drawings; interpret design requirements and ensure drawings align with project specifications and applicable industry standards.
• Coordinate communication and project activities among internal engineering teams, customers, vendors, and other external stakeholders.
• Track project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and overall progress while helping identify potential project risks and supporting the development of mitigation strategies.
• Assist with quality assurance and quality control activities while ensuring project work is completed in accordance with established safety and quality requirements.
• Identify project issues or roadblocks early, work collaboratively with engineering and project teams to resolve them, and help keep projects moving forward.
• Gradually take on additional project engineering responsibilities, providing an opportunity to grow beyond design and CAD-focused work into broader project coordination and execution.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent relevant experience may also be considered.
