Job summary

Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer – Level 3 to join our MEP Team in San Diego, CA. This 100% onsite role designs complex assemblies and tooling for space and defense systems.

You will collaborate with Manufacturing, Test, and other Engineering functions, perform 3D designs and drawings, and support design reviews to meet cost and schedule targets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 5 years of structural design experience.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 3 years of structural design experience.
  • Aerospace experience with product definition and design.
  • Ability to design complex, multi-piece tool assemblies for manufacturing and testing.
  • Experience in CAD and PLM systems, such as Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
  • Drawing generation with GD&T and DFMA knowledge.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design complex assemblies including high strength & stiffness composite laminates, honeycomb sandwich structures, and metallic interface hardware.
  • Create, prototype, design, and analyze tools and fixtures for manufacturing and testing of composite parts and assemblies.
  • Develop and refine components and subsystems utilizing design skills, hand calculations, CAD modeling software and analytical tools.
  • Perform detailed 3D designs and generate 2D engineering drawings.
  • Participate and present in internal and external design reviews, including PDR, CDR, and MRR.

Includes generation of presentation media for PDR, CDR, and MRR type reviewsSupport manufacturing and test of fixtures and hardware as requiredAid in the generation of manufacturing and test plansSupport procurement of flight hardware and toolingManage and track multiple priorities while maintaining a focus towards common project goals of the program team, matrix organization, and customersSupport continuous improvement of departmental tools and proceduresEnsure designs meet manufacturing and test plans, while maintaining targets for cost and scheduleBasic Qualifications:Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with five (5) years of experience in a structural design field; OR Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with three (3) years of experience in a structural design field.Aerospace experience with product definition and design. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
