Job summary

Northrop Grumman in San Diego, CA seeks a Tool Design Engineer (Level 2 or 3) to design complex composite tooling, layup molds, fixtures, and GSE for space and defense products. You will work closely with Manufacturing and Test teams to ensure tooling meets cost and schedule targets.

The role requires CAD/PLM experience (Siemens NX, Teamcenter), GD&T, DFMA, and the ability to obtain U.S. Government clearance. Travel about 10% is expected.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; ability to obtain US clearance
  • Two (2) years in a structural design field (Level 2) or five (5) years (Level 3)
  • Experience CAD/PLM; GD&T; DFMA; aerospace materials and assembly methods

Responsibilities

  • Create, prototype, design, and analyze tools and fixtures for manufacturing/test of composite parts
  • Perform detailed 3D designs and generate 2D drawings
  • Participate in internal/external design reviews (PDR/CDR/MRR) with presentation media
  • Support manufacturing/test of fixtures and hardware and develop test plans
