Job summary

Goodwin Recruiting is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a Fort Wayne, IN-based custom machinery manufacturer. You will modify existing machinery, develop new equipment, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring designs to life.

The role emphasizes 3D modeling with SolidWorks, GD&T, and mechanical calculations. You'll select components, create BOMs, and contribute from design through testing on automated industrial equipment.

Qualifications

• Mechanical design experience with industrial machinery or automated equipment.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
• Strong GD&T knowledge and manufacturing drawing experience.
• Ability to perform mechanical calculations and select components.
• Experience creating BOMs and complete design packages.
• Practical mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Modify existing machinery designs (75%) and develop new equipment (25%).
• Create 3D models, detailed drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks.
• Apply GD&T and perform mechanical calculations involving loads, forces, and torque.
• Select bearings, gears, actuators, and other mechanical components.
• Collaborate with Controls Engineering and Assembly to troubleshoot and improve equipment.
• Support custom machinery projects from design through testing.

Ready to do more than sit behind a CAD screen? We're seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established custom machinery manufacturer in Fort Wayne, IN. You'll improve existing equipment, develop new designs, and work directly with the teams bringing your designs to life.

What You'll Do
