Specialty Tooling Systems in Grand Rapids, MI, seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer for Automation to lead the design and development of intelligent industrial automation systems. You will own the complete design life cycle for projects, collaborating with project managers, customers, estimators, controls, and management teams to bring concepts to on-site realization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent relevance.
• 1–5 years of related mechanical design experience.
• Strong knowledge and experience with SOLIDWORKS.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Maintain confidentiality on sensitive projects and present a professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project managers and customers from design concept through completion on site.
• Contribute to manufacturing design concepts with Estimating, Controls, and Project teams.
• Own the complete design life cycle for projects.
• Apply GD&T to develop fixturing for assembly.
• Consider machine ergonomics, serviceability, and maintenance needs.
• Engineer structural components and validate with FEA.
• Work under senior engineers on larger projects.
