Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Richland, WA seeks an early professional mechanical design engineer for multi‑discipline project work, including calculations, analyses, drawings, and reports. You will help design and qualify structures, systems, and components, and prepare mechanical procurement and construction specifications.

The role offers career advancement, teamwork with a broad engineering group, and exposure to DOE/NNSA facilities.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen; dual citizenship outside the U.S. does not qualify.
• Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance.
• BSME degree from ABET-accredited program with strong thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, machine design, or thermal systems.
• 3+ years of engineering experience.
• Familiarity with codes/standards (ASME B31 piping, ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel, ASME AG-1).
• Experience with FE analysis or advanced software (ANSYS, AutoPIPE).
• Experience documenting mechanical engineering calculations.
• Strong MS Office skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support mechanical design on multi-discipline project teams.
• Produce engineering calculations, analyses, drawings, and reports.
• Apply mechanical engineering to design and qualification of structures, systems, and components.
• Prepare procurement and construction specifications (Mechanical sections).
• Attend project meetings and perform field walk downs.

Education

BSME degree (ABET-accredited)

3+ years engineering experience

Proficiency with MS Office

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
