Job summary

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, WA, seeks a senior mechanical design engineer (Level 3) to join the Campus Design, Engineering, and CAD group. You will provide mechanical engineering expertise for facility design, calculations, contract documents, and field inspections across PNNL facilities.

The successful candidate will lead projects, mentor junior staff, coordinate with other disciplines, and ensure energy-efficient, code-compliant designs.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications: BS/BA in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years design/analysis experience or MS with 3+ years.
• Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) license and lab/facility design experience.
• Experience with HVAC, lab ventilation, and commissioning is valued.

Responsibilities

• Lead assigned projects with minimal supervision and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Translate requirements into complete engineering solutions and constructible designs.
• Review technical work, mentor junior staff, and ensure on-schedule deliverables.
• Support procurement, field inspections, and commissioning activities.
