Job summary

Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. is seeking a Junior Technical Designer to work on-site in Huntsville, AL. The role involves researching, planning, and developing mechanical components, systems, and processes, translating designs into accurate tools and drawings.

You will collaborate with engineers and production teams, use SolidWorks, Rhino, and PatternSmith to create 3D representations, and contribute to design feasibility, materials selection, and construction methods.

Qualifications

• Requires a completed bachelor’s degree in Technical Design or similar and up to 2 years of Technical Design work experience, OR an associate degree and some relevant experience, OR a high school diploma with extensive DoW industry experience.
• Proven experience as a Technical Designer in manufacturing with a strong portfolio of technical drawings and patterns.
• Proficiency in PatternSmith for pattern making and grading; solid modeling in SolidWorks and Rhino.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineering to interpret design concepts and specifications.
• Create precise patterns and templates using PatternSmith; ensure proper fit and material allocation.
• Develop 3D drawings in SolidWorks/Rhino for visualization of soft goods and rigid structures.
• Produce technical drawings with measurements, stitches, seam allowances, and assembly instructions.
• Coordinate with production to address design challenges and provide adjustments as needed.
• Organize design files and documentation for easy sharing and traceability.
• Conduct quality checks to ensure final products meet specifications and standards.
