Job summary

Oil States Industries, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer I to support new and existing projects, focusing on shock mounts, bearing components, and offshore riser related systems.

Under supervision, you will use CAD/FEA tools and follow GD&T standards while learning manufacturing processes and documentation practices. The role requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience) and a proactive, detail-oriented mindset.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 0–2 years of direct experience; or 6+ years of direct experience without a degree.
• SolidWorks 3D CAD and AutoCAD 2D CAD experience is a plus.
• FEA tools experience is a plus; programming and data analysis skills are a plus.
• Strong organizational, detail-focused, urgency-driven work attitude and good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for new and existing projects, including design, analysis, and testing.
• Develop procedures, in-house codes, industry standards, and documentation.
• Assist with design, analysis, testing and engineering documentation activities; participate in Material Review Board activities.

Oil States is currently looking for qualified candidates for the position of Mechanical Design Engineer I.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision, provide engineering support for new and existing projects. Products include shock and vibration isolation mounts, laminated elastomer bearing based components for offshore riser and tendon connections as well as military applications, industrial clutch and brakes and hang-off systems for offshore riser components. Will often work with more experienced co-workers on projects.

ENGINEERING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop a working knowledge for each assigned project
  • Design procedures, in-house codes, industry standards and fundamental structural design practices
  • CAD software and FEA codes
  • GD&T principles
  • Drawing formats and procedures
  • Manufacturing processes
  • Testing processes
  • Review design bases and reports, test plans, material specifications and any other necessary technical documents
• Assist with design, analysis, testing and engineering documentation activities
• Assist with Material Review Board activities
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical Engineering or related degree with at least 0-2 years of direct experience; or at least 6 years of direct experience without a degree
• Basic knowledge or some experience using SolidWorks 3D CAD and AutoCAD 2d CAD a plus
• Basic knowledge or some experience using FEA tools a plus
• Demonstrated programming and data analysis skills a plus
• Effective organizational skills
• Detail-focused and results-oriented attitude with a sense of urgency.
• Handle multiple tasks at one time.
• Effective written, oral communication and interpersonal skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Office environment – prolonged sitting, use of a computer, telephone and other office equipment.
• Frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs.
• Lifting up to 10 pounds occasionally.
