Oil States International is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer II to support new and existing offshore-focused projects. You will develop elastomeric components and associated metal structures, perform FEA/hand calculations, and produce drawings for manufacturing using 3D/2D CAD tools.

The role requires collaboration with operations, manufacturing engineering, quality and project management, with occasional customer interactions and vendor coordination.

Qualifications

  • Master's in Mechanical Engineering or related field with relevant experience.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering with several years of direct experience.
  • Experience with CAD and FEA tools as described in the qualifications.
  • Familiarity with elastomeric materials and GD&T is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design elastomeric components and supporting metal structures using CAD and industry standards.
  • Run and interpret FEA results to validate structural and thermal performance.
  • Translate concepts into drawings (3D/2D) and ensure producibility.
  • Prepare design bases, test plans, material specs and documentation.
  • Lead design/analysis activities on projects and coordinate with teams.

Oil States is currently looking for qualified candidates for the position of Mechanical Design Engineer II.
POSITION SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, provide engineering support for new and existing projects in terms of component and structure design; structural and thermal analysis either by FEA or hand calculations; and engineering documentation. Products include shock and vibration isolation mounts, laminated elastomer bearing based components for off-shore riser and tendon connections as well as military applications, industrial clutch and brakes and hang-off systems for off-shore riser components. Requires closely partnering with operations, manufacturing engineering, quality and project management. Some interface with Customers and material/outside fabrication vendors as required.

ENGINEERING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design of elastomeric components and associated metal structures through use of in-house codes, industry standards and fundamental structural design practices
  • Run and interpret results from finite element analysis to verify component structural and thermal performance
  • Translate designs from concept to drawing with 3D or 2D CAD software
  • Generate input and review drawings for format, technical accuracy as well as producibility
  • Generate input, help assemble and review design bases and reports, test plans, material specifications and any other essential engineering documentation
  • Material Review Board activities
  • Capable of taking the lead in the design/analysis process and managing engineering project teams
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Masters in Mechanical Engineering or related degree with at least 2 year of direct experience; BS in Mechanical Engineering or related degree with at least 3 years of direct experience; or at least 8 years of direct experience without a degree.
  • Demonstrated proficiency as a detail component/structural design engineer
  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer-aided-engineering /design software, including SolidWorks or AutoCAD
  • Demonstrated proficiency performing structural analysis with FEA, SIMULIA Abaqus preferred
  • Proficient in the usage of GD&T notation and application
  • Familiarity of designing and analysis with elastomeric materials a plus
  • Demonstrated programming and data analysis skills a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Detail-focused and results-oriented attitude with a sense of urgency
  • Handle multiple tasks at one time
  • Excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • 5% to 10% travel required, including international travel
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Office environment – prolonged sitting, use of a computer, telephone and other office equipment
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs
  • Lifting up to 10 pounds occasionally
  • Occasional travel, including international travel
