Job summary

Software Placement Group (SPG) seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer in Memphis, TN to lead new product design for the electric utility market. You will develop part and assembly designs, drawings, and specifications, and review changes to ensure technical and functional compliance.

You will perform feasibility analyses, FEA, prototype testing, and collaborate with engineering teams to meet milestones and timelines, while supporting Field Sales with technical guidance.

Qualifications

• BSME or equivalent required.
• Proficient with 3D modeling software (SolidWorks or ProE).

Responsibilities

• Develop new product part and assembly designs, drawings, and specifications.
• Evaluate and recommend specifications to meet technical and functional requirements.
• Review and analyze proposed product changes.
• Perform feasibility, functional, and quality testing of designs.
• Perform finite element analysis (FEA) and related calculations.
• Manage prototype development and testing.
• Facilitate creation and approval of engineering drawing changes.
• Recommend and follow reliable, cost-effective procedures.
• Write test reports for internal use and for publication.
• Collaborate with other engineering staff to ensure milestones and timelines.
• Provide technical support to Field Sales personnel.

Overview

Our client is a well-established and expanding manufacturer serving the electric power industry. Due to continued growth, they have an immediate need for a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of new products for the electric utility market while also supporting engineering efforts on existing product lines.

What you'll do

• Develop new product part and assembly designs, drawings, and specifications
• Evaluate and recommend specifications to ensure products meet technical and functional requirements

Required qualifications

Preferred qualifications

• 2-5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
• Understanding of manufacturing processes preferred (i.e. casting, molding, machining, forming, extruding, etc.)
