Job summary

Extron seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop concepts from prototype to production for electronics enclosures. You will design sheet metal parts, stampings, extrusions, and some plastics, using SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor to create 3D models and 2D drawings.

Expect collaboration across teams and with suppliers to meet performance, cost, and manufacturability goals. The role requires a Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, 5+ years in design (or 3+ years with a master’s), and strong

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience, or a master’s with at least 3 years.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
• Experience designing electronics enclosures and assemblies.
• Experience with thermal analysis and CFD preferred.
• Strong knowledge of fabrication: machining, casting, injection molding, sheet metal.
• Strong verbal and written communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical design of components, assemblies, and enclosures for electronic products.
• Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks or Inventor.
• Maintain engineering documentation and BOMs for prototyping to release.
• Perform CFD thermal analysis to optimize cooling.
• Coordinate with other departments and suppliers to meet specs and costs.
• Resolve design challenges with analytical thinking and hands-on approach.
