Job summary

Extron, a leader in AV hardware and software, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Raleigh, NC, to drive mechanical design across electronic product packaging. You will heavily use 3D CAD (SolidWorks or Inventor), create 2D drawings, develop BOMs, and perform CFD-based thermal analysis to ensure performance and manufacturability.

The role involves collaboration with engineering, purchasing, and manufacturing to meet cost, schedule, and quality targets, and requires a strong design

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of relevant mechanical design experience, or a master’s degree with at least 2 years of experience.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling using SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
• Thermal simulation experience using CFD tools.
• Design experience with injection molding, die casting, and sheet metal fabrication.
• Product design experience of business, commercial or consumer electronic products.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Proficient with standard engineering and productivity software tools.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical design and development of components, assemblies, and enclosures for electronic products.
• Develop complex mechanical designs using 3D CAD and create 2D drawings.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation including BOMs and specs.
• Perform thermal analysis and CFD simulations for thermal performance.
• Coordinate with other departments and purchasing to meet schedules and costs.
• Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure specs and quality.
• Identify and resolve complex design challenges through reasoning and hands-on problem solving.
