Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in San Jose, CA to design and deliver next‑generation networking enclosures and components for data center products. You will model in SolidWorks/Creo, apply GD&T, and drive manufacturability across sheet metal, plastics, and die-cast parts.

The role emphasizes EMI/safety compliance, cross‑functional collaboration with hardware, thermal, and manufacturing teams, and involvement in ECO/BOM processes throughout the lifecycle of high‑tech networking

Qualifications

• Experience designing mechanical enclosures for networking equipment.
• Tolerance analysis and GD&T expertise for robust designs.
• Experience with sheet metal, plastic, and die-cast parts for enclosures.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks and Creo.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical solutions for networking products such as routers, switches, firewalls, and servers.
• Create and refine electronic enclosure designs using sheet metal, plastic, and die-cast components for data center networking equipment.
• Ensure mechanical designs meet EMI, safety, and compliance requirements and adhere to industry standards.
• Perform detailed tolerance analysis and apply GD&T to ensure robust and manufacturable designs.
• Collaborate with hardware, signal integrity, CAD, thermal, and manufacturing teams to define requirements and resolve issues.
• Evaluate and communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and design options for informed decisions.
• Work with manufacturing tooling for sheet metal, plastic, and die-casting to optimize for production.
• Participate in ECO, BOM, and deviation processes throughout the product lifecycle.
• Use 3D CAD tools to create models, assemblies, and drawings of components and enclosures.
• Contribute to mechanism design and integration of mechanical features to enhance product functionality.
• Support continuous improvement of design processes and documentation.
