Job summary

Shibuya Hoppmann Corporation is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer – Custom Automation for its Madison Heights operation. The role involves designing custom automation equipment, developing concepts, and producing detailed manufacturing drawings while coordinating with customers and internal teams.

The successful candidate will bring 1–3 years of mechanical design experience, proficiency in SOLIDWORKS, and strong problem-solving skills to support FAT, installation, and commissioning efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of mechanical design experience, preferably in automation.
• Experience designing machinery, automation equipment, or tooling.
• Proficiency with SOLIDWORKS.
• Strong troubleshooting and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design custom automated assembly equipment using SOLIDWORKS from concept to detailed drawings.
• Develop mechanical concepts and feasibility studies for new applications.
• Prepare manufacturing drawings and BOMs.
• Collaborate with customers and internal teams to capture requirements and conduct reviews.
• Support assembly, FAT, testing, and customer installation.
• Coordinate with controls, manufacturing, project management, and sales during execution.
• Select mechanical components such as bearings, gearboxes, servos, pneumatic actuators, and conveyors.
• Troubleshoot design and performance issues and implement practical solutions.
• Travel to customer sites for surveys and commissioning support.
• Apply knowledge of cams, gearboxes, bearings, and pneumatic actuators.
