Job summary

ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems AB in Monroe, NC is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop and support configurable automatic door solutions from concept to production release.

You will create prototypes, validate performance, and drive product industrialization with DFMA and ECOs, collaborating with product management, manufacturing, and sourcing teams to deliver manufacturable, reliable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 2 years of product design experience in electromechanical, hardware, or related industries.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD; SolidWorks experience strongly preferred.
• Experience creating detailed manufacturing drawings, assemblies, and multi-level BOMs.
• Hands-on experience in an engineering lab, prototype shop, or similar environment.
• Knowledge of aluminum, steel, and glass design applications.
• Experience with GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and electromechanical integration.
• Strong organizational, communication, and multi-project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop new automatic door products, options, and enhancements while balancing performance, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and configurability.
• Collaborate with product management, manufacturing, sourcing, and field service to translate requirements into engineering solutions.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, multi-level BOMs, and product documentation.
• Build and test prototypes, develop test plans, analyze results, and implement design improvements.
• Apply engineering principles for material selection, tolerance analysis, GD&T, and electromechanical integration.
• Support DFMA-friendly product industrialization, ECOs, and production launches.
• Coordinate with manufacturing and supply chain to ensure successful implementation and ongoing support.
• Manage multiple projects, communicate progress, risks, and recommendations to cross-functional teams.
• Drive continuous improvement for product quality, documentation standards, and release processes.
