Job summary

Jobot is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Engineering Department as a hands-on technical lead designer in Alameda, CA. You will manage the mechanical design process from concept through permit issuance and final construction documentation.

The role demands 7+ years in commercial construction, a PE (preferred), and strong proficiency in HVAC systems and software like Carrier HAP and AutoCAD/Revit.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in the commercial construction sector.
• Knowledge of California codes and local building standards is essential.
• Strong understanding of HVAC systems and installation standards.
• Proficiency in Carrier HAP, Trace 700, Energy Pro, or similar software.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Technical ownership of the mechanical design from concept through permit and construction documents.
• Lead design execution, set design parameters, size equipment, and define control strategies.
• Design and troubleshoot air-side (VAV, DOAS) and water-side systems.
• Ensure QA/QC throughout the design process to meet standards and constructability.
• Provide field support during construction with submittals, RFIs, and site assessments.
• Mentor junior engineers on projects and documentation quality.

Responsibilities

• Technical Ownership: Manage the mechanical design process from the foundation of design through to permit issuance and final construction documentation.
• Lead Design Execution: Establish design parameters, select systems, size equipment, and define control strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
• System Design and Troubleshooting: Design and address challenges related to both air-side (VAV, DOAS, etc.) and water-side (hydronic systems, pumping, etc.) mechanical systems.
• QA/QC Responsibility: Ensure quality assurance and control throughout the design process, verifying that all designs meet outlined standards and practical construction viability.
• Field Integration: Provide support during construction with activities like submittal reviews, resolving RFIs, and participating in site assessments to ensure smooth project execution.
• Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers, guiding them in practical project work, code compliance, and enhancing overall document quality.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in the commercial construction sector.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. (Required)
• Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred)
• Comprehensive understanding of engineering fundamentals, HVAC systems, and installation standards.
• Knowledge of California and applicable local building codes is essential.
• Proficient in Carrier HAP, Trace 700, Energy Pro, or similar software.
• Proficient in AutoCAD; Revit experience (preferred)
