Job summary

Reading Bakery Systems in the United States seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to create advanced CAD models of bakery equipment and plant layouts. You will ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, and compliant with company standards, while producing BOMs and design packages for manufacturing and purchasing.

You will collaborate with internal and external teams, lead design projects, train teammates, and help drive innovation in our global bakery equipment leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree with 2 years of experience.
• CAD-focused design experience in manufacturing environments.
• Portfolio of CAD work required, subject to confidentiality.
• Ability to read drawings and interpret BOMs.

Responsibilities

• Design bakery equipment with SolidEdge 3D CAD to validate form, fit and function.
• Develop plant layouts to optimize process flow and equipment placement.
• Modify existing designs to meet customer requirements and improve function.
• Ensure drawings comply with RBS standards and generate BOMs.
• Lead design projects and mentor teammates in CAD methods.
• Create detailed CAD drawings and illustrations for manufacturing.

This role ensures designs are functional and manufacturable, and oversees the creation of bills of materials, as well as issuing design packages for manufacturing and purchasing.Key Responsibilities:Design bakery equipment using SolidEdge 3D CAD software to evaluate form, fit, and function.Develop plant layouts to optimize process flow and equipment placement.Modify existing designs to enhance equipment functionality per customer requirements.Ensure all drawings comply with RBS engineering and manufacturing standards.Create comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOM) for both manufactured and purchased components.Train and guide team members on RBS design standards, 3D modeling, and CAD system operations.Collaborate with project engineers, applications engineers, and customer teams to resolve design challenges.Lead design projects and provide technical leadership to design, manufacturing, and assembly personnel.Create detailed CAD drawings and illustrations of bakery equipment and components.Provide regular feedback to enhance operational efficiency.Why Join Us?At RBS, you’ll work on exciting projects with a supportive and innovative team that values your professional growth. Be part of a company that’s shaping the future of the baked snack food industry!Job QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an Associate’s/ Technical Degree in Engineering and 2 years of related experience.Demonstrated design/drafting experience in CAD-focused, precision engineering, or manufacturing environments.Experience using Solid Edge, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor software or similar products is a must, you will be asked to bring a portfolio of your work, barring confidentiality concerns.Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering documents, drawings, and manuals with correlation to the BOM.Advanced technical math skills (geometry, algebra, percentages, ratios).Strong problem-solving and reasoning abilities.Experience with precise measuring instruments.Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and management levels.
