Job summary

Reading Crane & Engineering, part of Flatiron Crane, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop and improve cranes, systems, and components. You will collaborate with customers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to deliver safe, cost-effective designs that meet standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of engineering design experience (internships/co-op acceptable).
  • Proficiency with CAD software and engineering design tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor).
  • Analyze design requirements and project specifications.
  • Create 3D models, layouts, and fabrication drawings.
  • Perform engineering calculations and technical evaluations.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, and project teams to support production and installation.
  • Review and revise designs based on testing, customer feedback, and project changes.
  • Conduct design reviews and troubleshoot engineering issues.
  • Prepare bills of materials (BOMs), technical documentation, and reports.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product performance and reduce costs.

Job Summary:

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for developing, designing, and improving products, equipment, systems, and structures. Position Requirements
Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to visit manufacturing facilities, construction sites, or project locations as needed.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and use computer equipment for extended periods.
