Job summary

Reading Crane & Engineering, part of Flatiron Crane, seeks a Civil Design Engineer to design, analyze, and execute structural projects for overhead crane systems and industrial facilities. The role includes steel and concrete design calculations and managing projects from concept to completion.

Collaborate with sales, engineering, customers, subcontractors, and field personnel to deliver safe, cost-effective solutions while meeting schedules, budgets, and documentation requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
• Entry level, preferred experience in engineering and project management
• Must be safety conscious for themselves and others
• Critical thinking, decision making, and executing corrective actions
• Strong sense of organization and attention to detail
• Strong technical knowledge and computer literacy; FEA software, Word, Excel, Outlook
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Must work in both office and field environments
• Ability to work inside and outside in all weather and at heights

Responsibilities

• Calculations for design and analysis of crane supporting structures and building evolution around steel and concrete design
• Conform to all applicable design specifications and maintain detailed records
• Coordinate with sales team to propose work
• Coordinate and manage projects from start to finish
• Direct and supervise subcontractors and technicians to complete projects
• Planning and preparation of material orders and delivery
• Maintain deadlines and budgets to meet customer demands
• Ability to collect and interpret data
• Adhere to safety policies (OSHA standards)
• Prepare invoicing and project closeout documentation
• Manage time to work on multiple projects
• Respond timely to problems and stressful situations

Position Description

Job Summary:

The Civil Design Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and execution of structural engineering projects supporting overhead crane systems and industrial facilities. This role performs structural calculations for steel and concrete systems, develops engineering solutions that meet applicable codes and standards, and manages projects from concept through completion. The Civil Engineer collaborates with sales, engineering, customers, subcontractors, and field personnel to deliver safe, cost-effective, and high-quality solutions while maintaining project schedules, budgets, and documentation.

Job Responsibilities:

• Calculations for design and analysis of crane supporting structures, affiliated components, and building evolving around steel and concrete design.


• Conform all applicable design specifications and maintain detailed records.


• Coordinate with sales team to propose work.


• Coordinate and manage project from start to finish.


• Direct and supervise subcontractors and technicians to complete projects.


• Planning and preparation of material orders and delivery.


• Maintain deadlines and budgets to demands of the customer.

• Abide by safety policies of Simmers Crane Design & Services, the customer, and OSHA standards.


• Prepare documentation such as invoicing and project closeout.

Position Requirements
