Job summary

Campbell Scientific, Inc. in Logan, UT, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to advance electronic instrumentation and measurement systems.

You will design, analyze, and test mechanical components, select materials, and address thermal, vibration, and packaging challenges to meet evolving customer needs. Key responsibilities include developing manufacturing processes, verifying designs, and documenting engineering work while collaborating with a cross-functional team within Infrastructure

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Proficiency with CAD/3D modeling; SolidWorks preferred.
• Experience with CAE/FEA.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes.
• Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings.
• Strong communication in English.

Research & Development, Infrastructure 1 regular full-time position, located in Logan, UT Closing Date: End of Day, November 6, 2026

What You’ll Work On

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design, analysis, and testing of electronic instrumentation and measurement systems. This includes the selection and definition for materials, processes, mounting, packaging, analysis (thermal, vibration, etc.), and other mechanical issues arising in the design of electronic instrumentation and measurement systems.

You’ll Support Your Team by Performing the Following Key Tasks

• Design analysis: thermal, flow, vibration, structural
• Manufacturing process design; familiarity with common manufacturing processes
• Verification and validation testing of components and systems
• Design and manufacturing process documentation

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience and skills application in a related field /industry
• Experience in analytical, strategic, and innovative thinking
• Part and System design experience
• Application and understanding of mechanical design concepts
• Applied knowledge of design technique, tools, and principles in producing technical plans, schematics, drawings, and modeling
• Proficient with mechanical design work and knowledge of manufacturing processes
• Ability to read and interpret CAD documents
• Proficiency in using CAD/3-D modeling software
• Perform complex design analysis using CAE software
• Knowledge and application of mathematics, applied sciences, physical principles, laws, and their relationships
• Ability to fulfill work responsibilities under moderate supervision
• Function at a high level in both team and individual accountability environments
• Proficient in task and project management skills and outcomes
• Demonstrated competence in verbal and written communication skills in English
• Experience using SolidWorks in an engineering environment, preferred
• Experience working in fields relating to physical or earth sciences, particularly involving measurements, data collection, and data processing, preferred
• Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for the efficient manufacture of goods, preferred
• Experience with radio products and/or sensor products preferred
• FEA experience, preferred
• Sensor design, calibration, and verification (optical, mechanical, ultrasonic, etc.), preferred

Work environment

Most work is conducted at a desk in an office environment (sitting or standing for extended periods of time). Occasional work outdoors when installing or testing equipment. Occasional multi-day travel for training or site visits.

Physical requirements

Extended periods of sitting or standing, using a computer and other office and product hardware. Lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs. short distances and to heights of up to 48 inches.
