Job summary

Insight Global in California is seeking an aerospace CAD designer to create and maintain 3D models and drawings using CATIA V5 or NX. This role supports product development through design, drafting, model validation, and cross‑functional coordination with engineering and manufacturing teams.

Under supervision, you will develop 3D models and assemblies, generate 2D drawings and BOMs, apply GD&T, and manage data in PLM systems. Limited travel and mentorship to junior designers are possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of design and drafting experience in manufacturing, aerospace, or engineering environment.
• Significant hands-on experience with CATIA V5 or NX (approximately 6,000+ hours preferred).
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering documentation, including GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of industry drafting and GD&T standards.
• Professional certification related to geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is a plus.
• Aerospace background preferred, automotive industry applicable with advanced Catia experience

Job Description

An aerospace client is looking for an individual responsible for creating and maintaining 3D models and engineering drawings using advanced CAD software. Supports product development through design, drafting, model validation, and coordination with engineering and manufacturing teams.

Under general supervision, perform a variety of technical design and drafting activities, including:

• Develop complex 3D models, assemblies, and detailed
• Components using CAD software.
• Create solid models, surfacing features, assemblies, and parameter-driven designs.
• Apply manufacturing knowledge to design metal and fabricated components that support efficient production methods, including forming, machining, and additive manufacturing processes.
• Generate detailed part and assembly models within large digital mock-up environments.
• Utilize product lifecycle management (PLM) systems and configuration control processes.
• Produce 2D drawings, digital technical packages, and engineering documentation.
• Develop Model-Based Definition (MBD) datasets and annotations.
• Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Apply GD&T standards in accordance with current industry specifications.
• Conduct tolerance analyses, interference checks, and installation reviews.
• Prepare engineering change documentation and update existing design records.
• Perform mass and weight property calculations.
• Review and verify models and drawings completed by other designers.
• Collaborate with production personnel, suppliers, and customers to interpret technical documentation and support manufacturing activities.
• Develop tooling, fixture, and support equipment designs as required.
• Follow established company processes, procedures, and quality standards.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
• Limited travel required (typically less than 5%).
