We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer to support the design, development, and improvement of mechanical equipment, components, and assemblies. This individual will create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models, collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing teams, and ensure designs meet performance, quality, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, assemblies, and bills of materials using CAD software.
- Translate engineering concepts, specifications, and sketches into accurate manufacturing drawings.
- Design mechanical components, tooling, fixtures, machinery, and equipment assemblies.
- Apply GD&T, proper dimensioning, tolerances, and drafting standards.
- Perform design revisions and maintain accurate drawing and document-control records.
- Review designs for manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, and cost effectiveness.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and production teams.
- Support prototype builds, testing, installation, and design validation activities.
- Assist manufacturing personnel in resolving drawing, fit-up, and production issues.
- Select appropriate materials and standard mechanical components based on application requirements.
- Conduct field measurements and create drawings for existing equipment when necessary.
- Participate in design reviews and recommend improvements to existing products and equipment.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable company, customer, and industry standards.
- Manage multiple projects and meet established schedules and deadlines.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of mechanical design or drafting experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar platforms.
- Experience creating detailed fabrication, machining, and assembly drawings.
- Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Understanding of machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, and mechanical assembly processes.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with product lifecycle management, ERP, or document-control systems.
- Experience developing and maintaining bills of materials.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, or electromechanical systems.
- Familiarity with applicable ANSI, ASME, or ISO drafting standards.
This position operates primarily in an office and manufacturing environment. The Mechanical Designer may occasionally enter production areas to gather measurements, observe equipment, support installations, or troubleshoot design-related issues. Appropriate personal protective equipment may be required.
