Job summary

John Galt Staffing is seeking a mechanical designer to create solid models from sketches and specifications, and to translate requirements into controlled documentation. You will collaborate with product and manufacturing engineers to produce accurate 3D representations, perform tolerance analyses, and prepare drawings to ASME Y14 standards for multiple manufacturing methods.

Candidates should have an Associate's degree in Drafting and Design Technology, hands-on Solidworks or Siemens NX

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Drafting and Design Technology, or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with Solidworks or Siemens NX preferred.
  • Experience as a mechanical designer with aircraft hardware design and integration preferred.
  • Ability to visualize components and assemblies in 3D.
  • Knowledge of drafting principles.
  • Familiarity with and ability to check drawings to ASME Y14 standards.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5-2009 (GD&T) applications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Highly organized and efficient.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Create mechanical solid models from sketches, specs and verbal direction.
  • Translate engineering requirements into source and vendor control documentation.
  • Catalog vendor-controlled components and specifications.
  • Release drawings, specs and ECNs in the eMATRIX system.
  • Collaborate with product and manufacturing engineers and machinists on 3D representations.
  • Perform tolerance calculations (tolerance stacks) for parts and assemblies.
  • Develop drawings to ASME Y14 standards, including views and GD&T.
  • Generate production drawings for machining, sheet metal forming, and weldments.
  • Create electrical schematics and wiring diagrams from sketches and datasheets.
  • Produce engineering Bills of Materials in the eMATRIX with product release.
  • Check drawings against company and ASME Y14 standards.

Job description

  • Creation of mechanical solid models from conceptual sketches, specification sheets and verbal direction
  • Translation of engineering requirements to source and vendor control documentation
  • Cataloging of vendor and supplier-controlled components, models, and specifications
  • Release of specifications, drawings, and ECNs within the eMATRIX system
  • Interface with Product engineers, Manufacturing engineers and Machinists to produce accurate product representations and incorporate design for manufacturability feedback
  • Perform tolerance calculations ("tolerance stacks") of detail parts and sub-assemblies
  • Development of component and subassembly drawings to ASME Y14 standards, inclusive of all planforms, sectional and isometric views, notes and GD&T
  • Generation of production drawings for multiple manufacturing methods; including machining, sheet metal forming and weldments
  • Generation of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams from sketches, drawings, datasheets, and verbal direction
  • Produce engineering Bills of Materials in the eMATRIX system in concert with product definition release
  • Checking of drawings per company and ASME Y14 standards
Education/Experience:
  • Associate's degree in Drafting and Design Technology, or equivalent preferred
  • Experience in a common solid modeling software package, Solidworks or Siemens NX preferred
  • Experience as a mechanical designer, with commercial or military aircraft hardware design and integration experience preferred
  • Ability to visualize components and assemblies in 3D
  • Knowledge of drafting principles
  • Familiarity with and ability to check drawings to ASME Y14 standards
  • Working knowledge and use of ASME Y14.5-2009 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) applications and fundamentals
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products –Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Highly organized and efficient
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
