Job summary

HeatTek is seeking Mechanical Assemblers who read complex drawings and assemble sub-assemblies per specs. You will work under supervision to achieve quality, schedule and customer requirements, with duties across welding, fitting, and final assembly.

Responsibilities include training new hires, organizing sub-assemblies, and assisting in painting prep and shipment readiness. Strong focus on procedures, safety, and teamwork within a dynamic shop environment.

Qualifications

  • High School degree or equivalent required.
  • 2–3 years welding experience.
  • Must be mechanically inclined and skilled in using basic tools.
  • Must have insulation, assembly, and fork truck experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Work from drawings, blueprints and instructions to build sub-assemblies with high quality.
  • Identify and locate correct materials from stock to meet job specs.
  • Assist in developing and enforcing standard build procedures.
  • Train new hires at or below the Assembler level as instructed.
  • Assemble, package, and load crates for shipment.
  • Maintain safety and housekeeping standards and follow all policies.

Job description

Under the overall direction of and reporting to the Manufacturing Shop Supervisor, Mechanical Assemblers will take daily direction from the Manufacturing Team Lead. Mechanical Assemblers perform diversified assembly and erection operations recognized as standard processes. Works from complicated assembly drawings and specifications with progression supervision and checks. Final assemblies are inspected and tested.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Working from drawings, blueprints, and verbal instructions, perform basic skilled building, welding, fitting, aligning, and adjusting sub-assemblies ensuring the highest level of quality while meeting job schedule, estimated hours, and customer specifications.
  • Identify and locate correct materials from blueprints to pull from stock, skids of fabrication, job baskets and/or pallet racks.
  • May assist in producing, teaching, and enforcing standard company build procedures.
  • Provide direction to and assist in the training of new hires at or below “B” Assembler level as instructed.
  • Organize and participate in the prepping and unmasking of sub-assemblies and equipment before and after the painting process.
  • Build crates, package product and load equipment on trucks for shipment.
  • Assist other departments to ensure products are completed on time.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.

  • Continuous participation and engagement in process improvement strategies.
  • Maintain department housekeeping standards and ensure a clean, safe working environment.
  • Follow and enforce all safety policies and procedures, recommending improvements as appropriate.
  • Provide back-up support to other roles within the department as required.
  • Perform various duties as requested by management.
  • Working Conditions: Frequently working near moving mechanical parts. Frequently working in high, precarious places and exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock and vibration. Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. Noise level in certain work environments can be loud at times. Must know how to use and wear required provided personal protective equipment (PPE) depending on environment and working conditions.
  • Physical Requirements: Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools or controls, reach above shoulders, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch, climb ladders, occasionally work on hands and knees, and occasionally required to sit. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to operate a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Driving and Travel Requirements: Must maintain a valid state driver’s license, have access to reliable transportation, and carry the state minimum required auto insurance. Work-related travel possible. Must maintain necessary travel documents. May be subjected to various security and background screenings per company and/or customer jobsite entry request.
  • Customer Service and Communication: Must maintain confidentiality and use discretion with business and employee information. Must maintain an approachable demeaner at all times. Focus on clear, concise communication with clients, vendors, and peers. Professional, positive, and timely communication, both verbally and in writing, is crucial to this role.
  • Focus and Direction: Accepting of interruptions and being able to refocus and stay on task with a high attention to detail. Must be able to take direction as well as instill a proactive, self-directed approach to ensure daily requirements are fulfilled and projects are completed in an efficient and timely manner. Strong ability to prioritize, manage multiple deadlines, and maintain accuracy and work quality. Ask questions to ensure continuous self-learning and development.
  • Analytical Aptitude: The ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents including contracts, customer and industry specifications, engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, regulations, warranties, operating and maintenance instructions, policy and procedures manuals, and work instructions.
  • Technology: Proficient with basic software and smartphone technology including internet, calendaring applications, accessing emails regularly to ensure company communications receipt, and able to functionally use emerging technologies to support business needs.
  • Hours and Work Environment: Must meet or exceed job requirements and company expectations. Must be able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with the ability to work overtime as necessary. Must maintain a flexible work schedule with possible varying shifts including nights and weekends.

Education and Experience
  • High School degree or equivalent required.
  • Degree or certification from a technical college or trade school, 1-7+ years of related experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Must have 2-3 years of welding experience.
