Mechanical Assembler

SMS group is an industrial equipment manufacturer for the steel industry. We design, build, and service equipment and plants worldwide, supported by a strong technical services/machine shop network in North America.

Summary

The right candidate will:

1. Be safety-minded and enjoy hands-on work.
2. Assemble and disassemble various components.
3. Document daily activities.
4. Possess good mechanical skills for daily operations.
5. Perform cleaning, grinding, painting, and related tasks on buildings, equipment, components, and subassemblies.
6. Handle cleanup tasks, including removal of trash, coolant, oil, scrap, and chips.
7. Be courteous and work well with others.
8. Complete Maintenance Request Forms for repairs needed in the work area.
9. Maintain a safe and clean working environment, upholding high standards of housekeeping.
10. Work with a safety-conscious attitude and report unsafe acts or areas to management.

What you'll need:

1. Good mechanical skills.
2. Knowledge of mechanical tools.
3. Basic shop math and other relevant mathematical skills.
4. Ability to interpret blueprints and drawings.
5. Experience with crane operation, including safe lifting, inspections, and staging equipment.
6. Ability to operate a forklift safely, including loading, unloading, refueling, and inspections.
7. Basic computer skills.
8. Ability to work from bills of material, purchasing lists, shipping documents, and parts supplies.
9. Self-motivation and problem-solving skills to address flow issues independently.
10. Ability to learn and understand critical processes in assigned areas.
11. Resourcefulness in completing objectives and tasks.
