Job summary

KODIAK Construction Recruiting & Staffing seeks an Assistant Project Manager – Mechanical for a Cedar Rapids data center. Hourly pay ranges $42–$48 with a $150 per diem contingent on hours worked.

You will support plumbing/HVAC construction, coordinate with field leaders, and help manage schedules, submittals, costs, and BIM coordination on a large-scale project. Ideal candidates have 2–5 years in commercial/industrial construction, read mechanical drawings, and are proficient with Excel.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of commercial or industrial construction experience.
• Experience as an Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, Project Coordinator, or similar role.
• Working knowledge of commercial plumbing, HVAC, mechanical piping, or related systems.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specs.
• Experience with project documentation, scheduling, procurement or cost tracking.
• Strong communication, organization and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Preferred: data center, hyperscale or mission-critical construction experience.
• Preferred: familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Project Manager with daily coordination and execution of plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical construction activities.
• Coordinate with superintendents, foremen, general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to keep projects on schedule.
• Support installations involving chilled water piping, condenser water systems, hydronic piping, domestic water, drainage, and HVAC equipment.
• Review mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, and construction documents.
• Track project schedules, labor productivity, material deliveries, equipment procurement, and installation progress.
• Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, and project correspondence.
• Assist with cost tracking, budget monitoring, forecasting, and subcontractor coordination.
• Support BIM/VDC coordination and help resolve mechanical installation conflicts.
• Coordinate inspections, pressure testing, flushing, equipment startup, and commissioning activities.
• Assist with punch lists, as‑built drawings, turnover documentation, and project closeout.
