Job summary

The City of Universal City is seeking a Part-Time Mechanic to perform maintenance and repair of city vehicles and equipment. Working about 20 hours weekly, you will help keep fleet operations running and assist other mechanics as needed.

Requirements include a High School diploma (ASE certification preferred) and a valid Texas Class C driver license. Strong safety practices and good communication are essential. The role may require traveling between locations to pickup parts and vehicles.

Job Description

The Part-Time Mechanic reports directly to the Chief Mechanic and will work 20 hours per week. Duties include the maintenance and repair of various vehicles and equipment; clean and maintain shop, wash vehicles, pickup parts and vehicles from different locations, assist mechanics as needed and all other duties assigned.

Tasks Performed Include

• Pickup parts and vehicles from various locations;
• Repair/replace worn, broken or malfunctioning parts;
• Service vehicles and equipment as needed;
• Prepares vehicles for State Inspections;
• Repair/replace flat tires;
• Wash and clean City vehicles;
• Cleans and maintains shop area;
• Utilizes proper safety precautions and procedures related to work performed;
• Performs other duties and fulfills responsibilities as required by the Chief Mechanic and Director of Public Works.

Education and/or Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Vocational school or Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Must have a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

• Knowledge of the modern methods used in repairing, maintaining, and adjusting vehicles and equipment.
• Knowledge of the operation of tools and equipment commonly used in vehicle and equipment repair.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position working approximately 20 hours per week. The work schedule is subject to change depending on the needs of the department and the City. Overtime is required upon demand.

Travel

An employee in this position is required to drive a vehicle to complete daily work assignments, attend various meetings, functions, and events. May be required to travel out of town to represent the City at meetings and conferences and for training.
