Helps in the maintenance operation while performing preventive maintenance and repairing vehicles in the Fleet Department.
Works under the general supervision of the Fleet Supervisor.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; technical school preferred with a minimum of 2 years experience preferred as automotive and truck mechanic. Must be experienced in all aspects of automotive and truck repair, including rebuild, rebuild modification, and heavy equipment repair.
Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A or B endorsement or ability to obtain one within nine (9) months of date of employment.
Ase certification: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in Automotive or Heavy-Duty truck required or must be able to obtain certification within one year from date of hire.
Must attend the required education and training to maintain required certifications.
Be a self-starter and show initiative.
Formal application, rating of education and experience; oral interview and reference check; job related tests may be required.
Motorized vehicles for mechanical testing purposes, power and hand tools and equipment for vehicle and mechanical system work; mechanic’s tools including jacks, hydraulic lifts, air tools, and other tools required for minor repairs and routine maintenance of motorized vehicles; electronic vehicle diagnostic equipment; personal computer, calculator, phone; mobile or portable radio.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration or risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is moderately noisy.
Job hazards: Exhaust and welding fumes, chemical solvents, electrical shocks, noise, dirt, grease, working in vicinity of operating vehicles and/or equipment with moving parts, possibility of falling objects, inclement weather conditions.
