Job summary

LANTA is seeking a qualified bus mechanic to join our team in Allentown. You will perform routine and minor repairs and preventative maintenance on LANTA buses and shop equipment, using tools safely and professionally.

The role includes diagnosing vehicle systems, responding to road calls, documenting work, and training others. A strong knowledge of diesel/CNG/hybrid engines, electrical and air systems, and adherence to safety standards are essential.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of electrical systems, air systems, brakes, chassis and suspension, HVAC, diesel/CNG/Hybrid engines, and transmissions.
• Ability to read maintenance, repair and parts manuals, computer-based maintenance information systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics/wiring diagrams and ladder logic.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
• Skills with common mechanic hand tools, pneumatic tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Basic knowledge of electrical and gas welding.

Responsibilities

• Provides varied support to the Operations Department (e.g., bus pullout, vehicle exchanges, vehicle recovery, snow plowing).
• Conducts accurate and professional PM inspections.
• Troubleshoots vehicle systems and performs repairs.
• Responds to road calls.
• Documents all actions taken in written and electronic format.
• May assist in training and direction to other mechanics.
• Continuously improves professional knowledge by training sessions.
• Must adhere to safety standards and policies.
• Supervises junior staff as required.

LANTA is looking for qualified individuals to join our team.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES

• Perform routine and minor repairs and preventative maintenance on LANTA buses and shop equipment as needed. This includes removing, repairing, and replacing parts and components as necessary, while using tools and equipment in a safe and professional manner.
• Provides varied support to the Operations Department. (e.g., bus pullout, vehicle exchanges, vehicle recovery, snow plowing).
• Conducts accurate and professional PM inspections.
• Troubleshoots vehicle systems on a regular basis, accurately identifying root cause of problems. Recommends and performs subsequent repairs.
• Responds to road calls
• Accurately and professionally documents all actions taken in written and electronic format, completes all necessary forms.
• May assist in providing training and direction to other mechanics.
• Actively and continuously improves professional knowledge, skills, and abilities by participating in training sessions when required.
• Must understand and adhere to departmental, organizational, and industry safety standards and practices.
• Ability to work with others and abide by department code of conduct and policies.
• Performs duties of and directs activities of employees of lesser classifications as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Knowledge of electrical systems, air systems, brakes, chassis and suspension, HVAC, diesel/CNG/Hybrid engines, and transmissions.
• Knowledge of operating theory, failure diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance practices common to buses and heavy-duty vehicles.
• Ability to read, understand, and use maintenance, repair and parts manuals, computer-based maintenance information systems.
• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics/wiring diagrams and ladder logic.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills to make reasonable and appropriate decisions and recommendations.
• Skills with common mechanic hand tools, pneumatic tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Basic knowledge of electrical and gas welding.

• Experience working on mass transit and CNG vehicles is preferred.

• Related past work experience or academic/technical education required.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must satisfactorily complete performance test before the end of probationary period.
• Must possess valid Class B CDL driver's license.
• Must possess a valid Class 7 State Inspection License.
• Must possess tools pertinent to occupation.
