Job summary

LANTA in Allentown, PA is seeking a qualified bus maintenance technician to perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance on city buses and shop equipment.

You will diagnose issues, repair components, and support the Operations Department, including road calls and PM inspections, while documenting work and adhering to safety standards.

A valid Class B CDL and a Class 7 State Inspection License, plus necessary tools, are required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of electrical systems, air systems, brakes, chassis and suspension, HVAC, diesel/CNG/Hybrid engines, and transmissions.
• Ability to read, understand, and use maintenance, repair and parts manuals, computer-based maintenance information systems.
• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics/wiring diagrams and ladder logic.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills to make reasonable and appropriate decisions and recommendations.
• Skills with common mechanic hand tools, pneumatic tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Basic knowledge of electrical and gas welding.
• Experience working on mass transit and CNG vehicles preferred.
• Related past work experience or academic/technical education required.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must possess valid Class B CDL driver's license.
• Must possess a valid Class 7 State Inspection License.
• Must possess tools pertinent to occupation.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and minor repairs and preventative maintenance on LANTA buses and shop equipment as needed.
• Provide varied support to the Operations Department (e.g., bus pullout, vehicle exchanges, vehicle recovery, snow plowing).
• Conduct accurate and professional PM inspections.
• Troubleshoot vehicle systems and identify root causes; perform repairs accordingly.
• Respond to road calls and document actions in writing and electronic format.
• May assist in training and direction of other mechanics.
• Continually improve knowledge and skills through required training.
• Adhere to safety standards and department policies.
• Work with others and follow the code of conduct.
• Perform duties of and direct activities of junior employees as needed.

LANTA is looking for qualified individuals to join our team.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES

• Perform routine and minor repairs and preventative maintenance on LANTA buses and shop equipment as needed. This includes removing, repairing, and replacing parts and components as necessary, while using tools and equipment in a safe and professional manner.
• Provides varied support to the Operations Department. (e.g., bus pullout, vehicle exchanges, vehicle recovery, snow plowing).
• Conducts accurate and professional PM inspections.
• Troubleshoots vehicle systems on a regular basis, accurately identifying root cause of problems. Recommends and performs subsequent repairs.
• Responds to road calls
• Accurately and professionally documents all actions taken in written and electronic format, completes all necessary forms.
• May assist in providing training and direction to other mechanics.
• Actively and continuously improves professional knowledge, skills, and abilities by participating in training sessions when required.
• Must understand and adhere to departmental, organizational, and industry safety standards and practices.
• Ability to work with others and abide by department code of conduct and policies.
• Performs duties of and directs activities of employees of lesser classifications as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Knowledge of electrical systems, air systems, brakes, chassis and suspension, HVAC, diesel/CNG/Hybrid engines, and transmissions.
• Knowledge of operating theory, failure diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance practices common to buses and heavy-duty vehicles.
• Ability to read, understand, and use maintenance, repair and parts manuals, computer-based maintenance information systems.
• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics/wiring diagrams and ladder logic.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills to make reasonable and appropriate decisions and recommendations.
• Skills with common mechanic hand tools, pneumatic tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Basic knowledge of electrical and gas welding.
