Job summary

Cooper Machinery Services in Houston, TX seeks a Mechanic I to disassemble, rebuild, and test equipment in a high‑safety environment. You will interpret drawings, use a range of hand and power tools, and maintain tooling and facilities to stay operational.

Ideal candidates have a HS diploma or GED, 0–2 years in mechanical test/assembly or heavy equipment repair, and a valid driver's license. You will work overtime as needed and be a team player with strong attention to detail.

  • 0–2 years mechanical test and assembly/disassembly or heavy equipment repair experience.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to read drawings/prints.
  • Safety regulations knowledge and good housekeeping practices.
  • Willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Able to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Team-oriented with strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to read schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, position, reassemble, test, and paint moderate to highly complex equipment.
  • Use a wide range of mechanical tools and equipment for disassembly, assembly, and testing tasks.
  • Conduct risk assessments before performing operations and material movements.
  • Set up and run test operations following engineering specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance on mechanical equipment.
  • Interpret drawings, prints, and engineering specifications to guide work.
  • Ensure facility equipment and tooling stay operational, efficient, and safe.
  • Identify and report problems or hazardous conditions during equipment operations.
  • Complete required business training and documentation accurately.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment, adhering to all EHS policies.

As a Mechanic I in our Houston Machine Shop, you'll disassemble, rebuild, and test moderate to highly complex equipment that supports a 22,000-unit installed base. WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Disassemble, position, reassemble, test, and paint moderate to highly complex equipment.

WHO YOU ARE
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 0–2 years of experience in mechanical test and assembly/disassembly or heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Physically capable of pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, and other physical activity.
  • Able to interpret drawings, prints, and engineering specifications.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledgeable in safety regulations and good housekeeping practices.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to read schematics.
  • Familiar with common tools and equipment operation.
  • Willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • A team player who can also work independently to engineering specifications, with strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
PREFERRED
  • 2+ years of experience in operations or service center applications.
  • Strong knowledge of natural gas engine and compressor equipment.
