Job summary

Cooper Machinery Services is seeking a Mechanic II for our Houston Machine Shop to disassemble, inspect, repair, and test natural gas engine and compressor components. You will work with manual, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools, read detailed prints, and verify precision using micrometers, calipers, and indicators.

This role emphasizes safety, documentation, and teamwork in a shop setting. You will routinely disassemble and reassemble equipment, perform testing per specifications, and participate

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of experience in mechanical test and assembly/disassembly, or heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
• Able to interpret drawings, prints, and engineering specifications.
• Physically capable of pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, and other physical demands.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble, position, reassemble, test, and paint moderate to highly complex equipment.
• Clean, inspect, and repair natural gas engine and compressor components in a shop environment.
• Use manual, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools for fitting, adjusting, and securing components.
• Read detailed prints, and use micrometers, dial calipers, and dial indicators to verify precision work.
• Set up and run test operations in line with engineering specifications.
• Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance on mechanical equipment.
• Conduct risk assessments before operations and material movements, and follow all EHS policies.
• Keep your work area safe, clean, and organized.
• Identify and report problems or hazardous conditions during equipment operations.
• Complete required documentation and business training accurately and on time.

Every one of those units starts on a shop floor like ours, in the hands of mechanics who know that precision isn't optional. As a Mechanic II at our Houston Machine Shop, you'll clean, inspect, and repair natural gas engine and compressor components — disassembling, reassembling, testing, and finishing moderate to highly complex equipment with the precision the job demands.

This role is a great fit for a mechanic who's comfortable with manual, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools, reads a detailed print without a second thought, and knows their way around a micrometer, dial caliper, and dial indicator.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Disassemble, position, reassemble, test, and paint moderate to highly complex equipment
• Clean, inspect, and repair natural gas engine and compressor components in a shop environment

WHO YOU ARE

• High school diploma or GED
• 2 years of experience in mechanical test and assembly/disassembly, or heavy equipment repair and maintenance
• Able to interpret drawings, prints, and engineering specifications
• Physically capable of pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, and other physical demands of the role
• Willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Valid driver's license
• Solid grasp of safety regulations and good housekeeping practices
• Basic math skills and the ability to read schematics
• Mechanically minded, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently to engineering specs
• A strong team player with excellent communication and collaboration skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 2 years of experience in operations or service center applications
• Strong knowledge of natural gas engine and compressor equipment
