Job summary

GoTriangle is seeking a Mechanic I to perform preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and inspections on buses, vans, and related equipment. This role reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and supports a team focused on safe, reliable transit service.

Responsibilities include multi-point inspections, servicing brakes, fluids, and tires, and assisting more experienced mechanics on complex tasks. The role requires owning tools and a valid NC driver’s license with CDL endorsement; DOT medical

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of related maintenance experience preferred.
  • Valid North Carolina drivers license with the appropriate class.
  • Class B CDL with passenger endorsement required.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Good communicational skills and ability to work well with staff.
  • Must be able to report to work during Adverse Weather conditions.
  • Must meet DOT physical requirements.

  • Assist Mechanics II/III on complex repairs.
  • Provide road calls for disabled vehicles.
  • Maintain safety compliance and report hazards.

  • Thursday 10:00 PM – Friday 6:30 AM
  • Friday 10:00 PM – Saturday 6:30 AM

Third Shift a $2.00 Differential

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB DUTIES

The Mechanic I provides ongoing service, preventive maintenance work and minor repairs on vehicles, buses, machinery, and equipment. The Mechanic I reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor and/or the lead mechanic. This position reports to a Maintenance Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs preventive maintenance services and minor repair work on passenger, ADA and light transit vans.
  • Performs multi-point inspections, changing oil, checking and adding fluids, changing air, fuel and oil filters, changing hoses, replacing spark plugs, rotating tires, mounting and balancing wheels, replacing shocks, replacing light bulbs, replacing windshield wiper blades, checking and replacing serpentine belts, lubricating chassis, checking and servicing brakes, servicing transmissions and differentials, testing and replacing batteries.
  • Engages in increasingly more complex maintenance and repair work as experience and skills allow.
  • Inspects for and reports on vehicle damage such as torn seats, fluid leaks, dents, scratches, etc.
  • Provides assistance to Mechanics II/III on more complex repairs.
  • Provides and assist with road calls for disabled vehicles.
  • Maintains communications and good rapport with Maintenance and Operations staff.
  • Fully knowledgeable of and maintains compliance with all Shop Safety and OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Ensures proper safety tools and equipment are used at all times and understands the requirement for reporting Safety hazards and/or violations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • One year of related experience and/or training, experience in a professional maintenance shop preferred.
  • Prior truck/van maintenance experience preferred.
  • A good driving record and a valid North Carolina Driver's License and the appropriate classification.
  • Basic knowledge of fundamental mechanics.
  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Good communicational skills and ability to work well with staff, vanpool customers and the outside maintenance providers.
  • Must be able to report to work during Adverse Weather conditions.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License with a passenger endorsement.
  • Must be able to meet the Department of Transportation physical requirements and maintain a DOT card.
  • Some proficiency with computers is necessary.

An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the above stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

Working Conditions:

Works in an office environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or extreme temperatures. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting operating facilities, during which the incumbent should observe all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and use all protective clothing and devices provided.

Physical Requirements:

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
