Signing Bonuses for CDL A/B Holders
We currently offer a $6,000 signing bonus for CDL A or B license holders and a $3,000 signing bonus for CDL A or B permit holders who meet the required endorsements.
Summary
Under the direction of the Superintendent or General Foreman, the Mechanic A/Diesel Mechanic is responsible for repairing NJ TRANSIT equipment (buses or non‑revenue vehicles) for maintenance work.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Conduct a variety of testing, repair, installation, and maintenance tasks on equipment including engines, transmission, HVAC, electrical systems, brake systems, suspension, steering, electronics, and painting equipment.
- Remove, inspect, repair, and replace all components as necessary.
- Remove and replace defective parts.
- Remove and replace defective diesel engine components.
- Remove and replace engine and transmission components.
- Rebuild engines.
- Diagnose various vehicle components.
- Repairs equipment using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and measuring instruments.
- Perform necessary adjustments to diesel engines (e.g., valve, timing, injector heights).
- Determine whether or not equipment is able to stay in service.
- Inspect bearings, axles, and related parts of brake systems.
- Replace, repack, and adjust wheel bearings on brake systems.
- Repairs and maintains all facets of brake systems (including air brakes).
- Change filters, oil, tires, worn parts, and light bulbs as part of equipment inspection.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have a high‑school diploma or GED; ASE certification a plus.
- Possess at least three (3) years of auto body shop experience.
- Possess a valid NJ license with the ability to obtain a CDL license with passenger endorsement, or possess a valid NY/PA CDL with passenger endorsement.
- Be able to pass pre‑employment physical and background checks.
- Have a good driving record with less than five (5) points.
- Normal working hours are 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday (possible overtime).
