Job Description

Effectively uses a variety of hand, power, and computer diagnostic tools and testing instruments to perform complex inspection, diagnostic, overhaul, and repair functions for District vehicles and equipment, including gas, diesel, and CNG powered coaches, trucks, cars, fare boxes, fare collection equipment, small machinery, power tools, and support equipment. Performs off-site and emergency repairs, may serve as team leader or Lead Mechanic, and ensures safe work practices to maintain a safe environment.

Inspects, tests, troubleshoots, diagnoses, builds, rebuilds, overhauls, and maintains pneumatic, mechanical, and electronic systems on revenue and non-revenue vehicles and equipment. Reads blueprints, schematics, and job orders; makes road calls; operates District vehicles safely during duties; may instruct or assist other Mechanics; and performs related duties.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Experience: Four years of progressive full-time journey-level experience in diagnostics and mechanical overhaul of relevant vehicles or completion of a District-sponsored training/certification program, or completion of a related vocational/technical/trade school or college program.

Licenses and Certificates

• Mechanic A rating and/or Regional Transit Certification.
• Refrigeration Recovery/Containment Certificate Type II (or ability to obtain).
• Class B California Driver's License permit with endorsements on day one, and ability to obtain a full license within 90 days.
• Forklift Operator Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days.
