Job summary

Aerotek is seeking an Equipment Mechanic / Service Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment and hydraulic systems in shop and field settings. You will use strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills to ensure safe, reliable operation for internal and external customers.

Responsibilities include diagnosing hydraulic components, fabricating hoses, performing preventive maintenance, and documenting repairs.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems and related components.
  • Strong mechanical repair skills for heavy equipment and industrial machinery.
  • Hands-on maintenance for machines, trailers, and heavy vehicles.
  • Knowledge of diesel equipment and 12/24V electrical systems.

Equipment Mechanic / Service Technician
Job Description

This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, fleet vehicles, and industrial machinery in both shop and field environments. You will use your strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently while delivering reliable service to internal and external customers.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including cylinders, pumps, motors, valves, and related components.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and replace hydraulic hoses and tubing for customer equipment and fleet vehicles.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repair work on heavy equipment, construction machinery, and industrial equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues using diagnostic tools, technical manuals, and schematics.
  • Respond to customer breakdowns and perform emergency field service repairs as needed.
  • Inspect equipment, identify issues, and recommend repairs to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Perform fluid and lubrication services utilizing AMSOIL synthetic lubricants and related products.
  • Maintain accurate service records, repair documentation, and parts usage reports.
  • Operate shop equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively to complete repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Support equipment maintenance for machines, trailers, dump trucks, heavy equipment, and industrial equipment.
  • Apply diesel equipment knowledge to diagnose and repair engines and related systems.
  • Use welding and fitting skills, when applicable, to support repairs and fabrication work.
  • Interpret blueprints and technical diagrams to guide troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Work with 12-volt and 24-volt electrical systems to diagnose and repair electrical issues.
  • Collaborate with team members to prioritize work orders and ensure timely completion of service tasks.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Strong mechanical repair skills for heavy equipment, fleet vehicles, and industrial machinery.
  • Hands-on experience with equipment maintenance for machines, trailers, dump trucks, heavy equipment, and industrial equipment.
  • Working knowledge of diesel equipment and related systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair 12-volt and 24-volt electrical systems.
  • Experience with industrial maintenance in a shop or field service environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and manuals.
  • Valid drivers license with no restrictions.
  • Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly as part of daily duties.
  • Ownership of personal tools up to 1 1/2 inch, with specialty equipment provided.
  • Strong diagnostic, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work independently in both shop and field settings while managing multiple tasks.
  • Attention to detail in completing repairs, inspections, and documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Welding, fitting, and fabrication experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Experience performing fluid and lubrication services using synthetic lubricants such as AMSOIL products.
  • Experience in construction equipment, fleet maintenance, and repair.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems on construction and industrial equipment.
  • Comfort working in a small-team, family-style environment.
  • Strong communication skills to explain repair needs and recommendations to customers and team members.

Work Environment

This position is based primarily in a shop environment that is currently not climate controlled, with additional field service work as needed at customer sites. You will work as part of a small team of approximately five people in a family-owned setting, fostering close collaboration and open communication. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with lunch break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The role involves regular use of shop equipment, hand tools, and power tools, as well as working around heavy equipment, trailers, dump trucks, and industrial machinery. You should be comfortable with physical work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in varying temperatures and typical shop conditions

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Yorktown, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
