Job summary

Sylvania’s Transportation Department seeks a Mechanic to inspect and repair school buses, vans, and other corporation vehicles. A valid CDL is required or the applicant must be willing to obtain one; knowledge of gas and diesel engines is essential.

Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with possible overtime as needed. The candidate must maintain high safety standards and be able to perform related duties as directed by the Transportation Director.

Seeking a highly motivated self-starter who possesses knowledge and skill in the maintenance and repair of school buses, vans and all other corporation vehicles.

General Description of Position Duties:

Serves as a Mechanic in the Transportation Department. Working knowledge of gas and diesel engine repair. Required to have a valid CDL or willingness to obtain. Maintain a high standard of safety. Performs such other job related duties as may be assigned by the Director of Transportation.

Hours will be 8:00a.m.– 5:00p.m. with possible overtime on an as needed basis.

Special Skills, Training or Aptitudes Required or Desired:

Working knowledge of gas and diesel engine repair. Electrical, brake & cooling systems.

Physical and Mental Efforts:

• This position requires a high level of physical and mental endurance.
• Frequent standing, particularly for sustained periods of time.
• Frequent walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one part of the building to another.
• Constantly talking, expressing, or exchanging ideas to colleagues.
• Ability to hear and listen to detailed information through oral communication.
