Waste Resource Management (WRM) in Houston, TX, is seeking a skilled Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment, including tractors, trailers, tankers, and related plant equipment. The role requires meticulous work, adherence to DOT regulations, and accurate documentation.

You will troubleshoot issues, order parts, and support inventory while maintaining a safe, organized shop.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience in light to medium duty truck and equipment repair.
  • Welding skills in non-standard situations (preferred).
  • Clean driving record required.
  • Must provide and maintain required personal tools.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair light to medium trucks and trailers, incl. brakes, tires, and electrical systems.
  • Identify, diagnose, and repair tractor/trailer issues (Peterbilt, Kenworth, etc.).
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tractor and trailer equipment.
  • Document work orders and maintain shop records.
  • Maintain a safe, organized work environment.
  • Weld as needed per prints.

Job Overview

The Mechanic, under the direction of the Operations Manager, is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and general repairs on company fleet vehicles and equipment, including tractors, trailers, tankers, bobtail trucks, and select plant equipment (e.g., skid steers and forklifts). This role plays a critical part in supporting day-to-day operations by ensuring equipment reliability, safety, and compliance with Company standards and DOT regulations. The Mechanic works independently to troubleshoot issues, complete repairs efficiently, and accurately document work performed, while supporting parts and inventory processes and maintaining a safe, organized work environmen t.

Essential Functions:
  • Diagnose and repair light to medium trucks and trailers, including preventative maintenance, inspections, repair to air and hydralic brakes, tires, warranty procedures, driveline, steering and suspension, electrical, mobile AC refrigeration, and overhaul and engine rebuilds, with safety as the top priority.
  • Identify, diagnosis, and resolve tractor and trailer related issues, i.e., (Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mac, and small motors) tachometer, speedometer, power steering, power divider, U-joint, transmission, rear end, A/C, starter, alternator, APU, etc.
  • Diagnose and repair trailer components such as doors, floors, lids, valves, hoses, and side panels. HOUSTON: Diagnose and repair trailer components such as doors, valves, hoses, and manways.
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on tractor and trailer equipment including routine technical repairs and completing repair orders.
  • Remain technically proficient in all areas of the shop including tractor, trailer, tire, and basic parts administration.
  • Perform general or routine welding with or without prints.
  • Use effective interpersonal skills to maintain positive working relationships with team members, all unit personnel and external vendors.
  • Contribute to the goals and values of the leadership team and Company as a whole.
  • Utilize appropriate resources, such as the parts manual and computer, service bulletins and other resources to research problems, determine most effective and efficient method for repair and locate parts.
  • Document work order details within the Company’s internal order and billing program.
  • Abide by all Company policies and safety rules and assist in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.
Certifications
  • Technical school certification in diesel engines, electronics, or a related field preferred.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) preferred but not required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in light to medium duty truck and equipment repair.
  • Ability to demonstrate welding skills in non-standard situations and on varying materials (preferred).
  • Must possess and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Must provide and maintain required personal tools.
