Job summary

TMS International is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to maintain, repair, and overhaul diesel engines and related components in our steel mill operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diesel mechanics, experience with heavy equipment, and a commitment to safety and efficiency. This full-time role offers a competitive hourly wage of $35 and a schedule from 6 A.M.

to 6 P.M. with rotation. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, technical diesel certification

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in Diesel Mechanics preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of diesel mechanics experience, preferably in industrial/mill environments.
• Strong diagnostic skills; ability to read manuals and schematics.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance and repair of diesel engines and related systems on heavy equipment.
• Regular inspections and safety-compliant servicing to prevent downtime.
• Diagnostics and repair planning to ensure equipment reliability.

Job Summary

The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of diesel engines and related components in our steel mill operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diesel mechanics, a keen understanding of heavy equipment, and a commitment to safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel engines and related systems, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems, in various types of equipment such as trucks, loaders, and forklifts.
• Inspection: Conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential issues before they result in equipment failure. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and manufacturer specifications.
• Diagnostics: Utilize diagnostic tools and techniques to identify problems with diesel engines and other mechanical systems. Develop and implement effective solutions to ensure equipment reliability and performance.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and labor hours. Report any additional maintenance needs or issues to management.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other maintenance staff and departments to coordinate repairs and minimize downtime. Provide technical support and guidance to less experienced team members as needed.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Participate in safety training and contribute to the development of safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical certification in Diesel Mechanics or related field preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in diesel mechanics, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Experience with heavy equipment used in steel mills is a plus.
• Skills: Strong diagnostic skills and proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics. Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems is desirable.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and operate various tools and equipment. Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions typical of a steel mill.
