Job summary

TMS International in Middletown, OH is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair cranes, conveyors, forklifts and other mill machinery. You will perform inspections, diagnose issues, and ensure safe, reliable operation in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent with technical training preferred, plus experience with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

Job Description:

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide variety of heavy equipment and machinery used in the steel mill. This includes cranes, forklifts, conveyors, loaders, and other industrial machinery vital to the mill's operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical breakdowns efficiently to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and parts used.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance team members to ensure optimal equipment performance.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies at all times.
  • Assist in the installation and setup of new equipment as required.
  • Ensure a clean and organized work environment.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, preferably in a steel mill or similar industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Experience with welding, fabrication, and machining is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding and fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in heavy equipment mechanics or related fields.
  • Experience with crane repair and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with industrial safety standards and practices.
  • Previous experience in a steel mill or manufacturing plant is highly desirable.
