Job summary

The Barn Landscape + Architecture in Hawthorn Woods, IL seeks a full-time Mechanic to maintain and repair trucks, trailers, small engines, and heavy landscape equipment. Qualifications

• Effective communication and teamwork with field crews and supervisors.
• Prior landscaping/construction mechanic experience preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant mechanics training is a plus.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements.

Role Description

The Mechanic role is a full-time, on-site position based in Hawthorn Woods, IL. The Mechanic will perform routine maintenance and repairs on trucks, trailers, small engines, and heavy landscape equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation. Daily tasks include inspecting equipment, diagnosing mechanical issues, performing preventive maintenance, completing repairs, and documenting work performed. The role also involves coordinating with field crews to schedule service, supporting equipment setup for projects, and maintaining an organized, safe shop environment. The Mechanic will collaborate with supervisors to identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to equipment care and usage.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in general Maintenance and Maintenance & Repair of vehicles, small engines, and landscape equipment.
• Proficiency in Preventive Maintenance, including inspections, scheduled service, and documentation of maintenance activities.
• Hands-on experience working with Heavy Equipment such as loaders, skid steers, and compactors used in landscape construction.
• Strong Troubleshooting skills to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues efficiently and safely.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, parts diagrams, and basic technical documentation.
• Familiarity with standard shop tools and safety procedures; commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work area.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with field crews and supervisors.
• Prior experience as a mechanic in construction, landscaping, or related industries preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical or vocational training in mechanics is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving requirements.
