Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
• Experience leading a team of mechanics or technicians.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components used in landscaping machinery.
• Valid driver''s license and ability to operate landscaping equipment and vehicles as needed.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the mechanic team to ensure timely, effective repairs.
• Diagnose and repair issues across engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and other heavy equipment systems using diagnostic tools.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to reduce failures and extend equipment lifespan.
• Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records, including parts and labor, for compliance and budgeting.
• Coordinate with project managers and site supervisors to prioritize equipment readiness and urgent repairs.
• Manage the warehouse/shop, including organization, inventory of parts and supplies, and upkeep of tools and equipment.

About the Role

The Lead Mechanic keeps all vehicles, landscape machinery, and equipment running safely and reliably. This role oversees maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting across a range of heavy-duty landscaping equipment, leads a team of technicians, and drives preventative maintenance scheduling to minimize downtime and keep projects on track.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, preferably in landscaping
• Proven experience leading or supervising a team of mechanics or technicians
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components used in landscaping machinery
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate landscaping equipment and vehicles as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Trade or technical school certification in heavy equipment mechanics or diesel technology
• Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
• OSHA certification or other relevant safety training
• Familiarity with environmental regulations on equipment emissions and waste disposal
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills using modern diagnostic tools
