Job summary

Priority Waste Resources in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking a Heavy Duty Machinery Mechanic to perform repairs and preventive maintenance on refuse vehicles and related heavy equipment.

You will troubleshoot engines, hydraulics, air brakes, and electrical systems, perform welding and fabrication, and assist with DOT inspections while supporting uptime and safety. Afternoons shift preferred; ASE certifications are a plus but not required.

Qualifications

• Two+ years of experience as a heavy-duty technician.
• Experience with maintenance on refuse trucks and heavy machinery.
• ASE certifications are a plus but not required.
• Must be able to perform basic inspections of brakes, drivetrain, emissions, hydraulics, transmissions, general engine, steering, and suspension.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair refuse vehicles and heavy machinery.
• Perform engine, electrical, and HVAC maintenance.
• Scan trucks and troubleshoot with electronic tools.
• Assist with DOT inspections and safety checks.
• Complete oil changes and tire repairs.

Job Purpose

As a Heavy Duty Machinery Mechanic, you will perform repairs and maintenance on refuse vehicles and heavy machinery, including but not limited to vehicle refuse bodies and control systems, air brake systems, suspension, steering, hydraulics, electrical systems, general engine work, HVAC components, drivetrain, and chassis components.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Keep up on maintenance of vehicles and equipment
• Perform engine repair and maintenance
• Perform welding and fabrication
• Scan trucks and troubleshoot mechanical issues using electronic tools
• Perform electrical repairs
• Assist with DOT inspections
• Complete oil changes and grease trucks/equipment
• Repair tires, including replacement when necessary
• Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles to enable minimal downtime
• Safely execute road service calls when necessary to ensure the equipment is returned in a safe manner
• Troubleshoot emissions issues
• Actively problem solve
• Execute work orders and turn them into Maintenance Supervisor for company records

Qualifications

• Commercial Driver's License is a plus but not required
• Ability to work Afternoons
• Understand work orders and labor time standards
• Experience with maintenance performed on refuse trucks and heavy machinery
• ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certifications are a plus but not required
• Minimum two years experience as a heavy‑duty technician
