Job summary

Priority Waste Resources LLC in Auburn Hills, MI, is seeking a Shop Lead to repair and maintain refuse vehicles and heavy equipment, including diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems. This role requires at least 2 years of experience as a heavy-duty diesel technician, ability to diagnose with electronic tools, and the capacity to lead other maintenance staff while ensuring safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years' experience as a heavy-duty diesel technician; lead or senior-level preferred.
• Experience maintaining refuse trucks, heavy-duty vehicles, and/or heavy equipment.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, brakes, drivetrain, and emissions.
• Ability to diagnose issues using electronic diagnostic tools and document labor time.

Responsibilities

• Oversees and performs preventative maintenance and repairs on diesel-powered refuse trucks, vehicles, and related equipment.
• Performs engine diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
• Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
• Scans trucks with diagnostic tools to identify faults and troubleshoot issues.
• Performs welding and fabrication as needed.
• Assists with DOT inspections and ensures vehicles are maintained in a safe and compliant condition.
• Directs and assists other maintenance employees with work orders and troubleshooting.
• Promotes a safe, clean, and organized maintenance shop and ensures safety procedures are followed.

Job Purpose

In your role as a Shop Lead, you will perform repairs and maintenance on refuse vehicles and heavy machinery including, but not limited to: vehicle refuse bodies and control systems, air brake systems, suspension, steering, suspension, hydraulics, electrical, general engine work, HVAC components, drivetrain, and chassis components. This position has no direct reports.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversees and performs preventative maintenance and repairs on diesel-powered refuse trucks, vehicles, and related equipment.
• Performs engine diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
• Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
• Scans trucks and utilizes electronic diagnostic tools to identify and troubleshoot mechanical and electronic issues.
• Performs welding and fabrication as needed.
• Assists with DOT inspections and ensures vehicles are maintained in a safe and compliant condition.
• Performs oil changes, lubrication, greasing, and other routine preventative maintenance.
• Repairs and replaces tires as necessary.
• Troubleshoots and repairs emissions-related issues.
• Performs preventative maintenance and timely repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
• Safely responds to and performs road service calls when necessary to return equipment to service.
• Actively troubleshoots problems, identifies root causes, and determines appropriate repair solutions.
• Completes assigned work orders accurately and submits them to the Maintenance Supervisor for company records.
• Directs and assists other maintenance employees with work orders, repairs, and troubleshooting.
• Provides guidance and technical support to maintenance employees as needed.
• Helps prioritize maintenance and repair work based on equipment needs and operational demands.
• Reviews completed repairs to help ensure work is performed safely, correctly, and according to company standards.
• Communicates equipment issues, repair status, and maintenance needs to the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Promotes a safe, clean, and organized maintenance shop and ensures employees follow applicable safety procedures.
• Performs other tasks and duties as assigned by company management.

Qualifications: The successful candidate profile includes:

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a heavy-duty diesel technician or mechanic; lead or senior-level experience preferred.
• Experience performing maintenance and repairs on refuse trucks, heavy-duty vehicles, and/or heavy equipment.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, transmissions, brakes, drivetrain, emissions systems, steering, and suspension.
• Ability to perform basic inspections, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and identify appropriate repair solutions using electronic diagnostic tools.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, direct, and assist other maintenance employees with repairs, work orders, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to understand, complete, and accurately document work orders and labor time standards.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime.
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a plus, but not required.
• ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications are a plus, but not required.
• Must be willing and available to work 3rd Shift.
• Ability to work independently while providing direction and technical support to other maintenance employees.
• Commitment to safe work practices and maintaining equipment in a safe, reliable, and compliant condition.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the Maintenance Supervisor, maintenance team, and other company personnel.
