Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, seeks a skilled maintenance trades technician to perform repairs and preventative maintenance across plant facilities and machinery. You will use hand and power tools, read blueprints, sketches, and wiring diagrams, and conduct inspections to prevent breakdowns.

The role covers carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and related tasks.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent plus 6 years related experience.
• Apprentice graduate or Associate's Degree with 4 years related experience.
• An approved technical/trade certificate may substitute for a high school diploma/ GED.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities, or on machines and equipment.
• Work in one or more maintenance trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, welding, etc.
• Use blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings and specifications to plan work.
