Job summary

HII Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to perform repairs and preventive maintenance on facilities and machinery. The role spans several trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, and sheet metal work.

You will use blueprints and diagrams to guide inspections and fixes. The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent with related experience; an associate degree or apprentice training is a plus.

• High School diploma or equivalent with 6 years related experience.
• Apprentice graduate/Associate's Degree in relevant discipline with 4 years related experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities, or on machines and equipment.
• Works in one or more maintenance trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine/equipment repair, electrical, sheet metal fabrication, welding.
• Uses blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications to diagnose and repair issues.
• Tests, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs machines and equipment.

The Role

Performs repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities, or on machines and equipment. Typically performs work in one or more of the maintenance trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine and equipment repair, electrical, sheet metal fabrication, and welding. Conducts routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment. Uses hand and power tools. Tests, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs machines and equipment. Uses blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications.

Must Have

• High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years additional education and/or related experience; Apprentice graduate/ Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 4 years of related experience. May require certification.

An approved technical/trade certificate may substitute for a standard high school diploma/GED requirement
