Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Meat Clerk in the Meat department. The role focuses on delivering prompt, friendly customer service, assisting shoppers with product location, handling seafood prep, trimming, labeling and stock rotation, and upholding sanitation standards in a fast-paced environment.

The position requires High School or equivalent, food safety training, and up to six months of related experience. Daily tasks include customer interactions, merchandising and collaboration with department teams.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and food safety training.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
• Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store.
• Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible.
• Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing items, loading or unloading heavy items, noting customer suggestions and requests, and performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call, including taking orders.
• Works with coworkers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Wraps, weighs, and labels product; reviews freshness and rotates stock.
• Finishes trims on steaks, roasts, and chops and prepares seafood for display.
• Understands and practices proper sanitation; keeps the work area clean and neat.
• Replenishes and organizes coolers; reports out-of-stock products.
• Trays, slices, tenderizes, and grinds product; removes trash promptly.
• Maintains department and company dress code and hygiene standards.
• Reports to work as scheduled and on time.
